It is a pleasure to present the 2014 AHEPA Congressional Info-Card on American Hellenic Issues for the 113th Congress of the United States.
Traditionally published as a "Congressional Scorecard" this year we are publishing it as a "Congressional Info-Card." This is due to our belief that there were not enough criteria, specifically recorded floor votes, upon which to formulate a proper evaluation. As a result, there is no evaluation for each member of Congress.
However, we wanted to continue to provide the community with a service of keeping it educated about the actions taken by members of Congress on American Hellenic issues.
Therefore, data such as legislation co-sponsorship, support for congressional sign-on letters, and Caucus membership are identified to keep you as well-informed as possible.
While we understand that much of the business of politics happens "behind the scenes," we have made our evaluation based upon what is on the record according to the THOMAS Web site, http://thomas.loc.gov.
We encourage you to use the information presented in the Info-Card to make informed decisions especially if American Hellenic issues are at the forefront of your concern. Also, we encourage you to contact your elected representatives to ask them about their positions on these issues. If anything, the Info-Card may be the best indicator of how well legislators are aware of, or engaged in, our issues. To that end, a good portion of the burden rests on the community. Finally, it is always helpful to thank and congratulate our representatives if they are supportive of the issues.
