AHEPA SUMMER 2017 TESTIMONIALS

Katrina Storton, Film and Media student from University of California Santa Barbara“AHEPA’s Journey to Greece program gave me the opportunity to come to Greece, connect with my ancestry, and develop a broader worldview. I feel blessed to have been given this chance to explore my family’s culture and I am very thankful for the memories I made during the whole experience. This was not only an educational opportunity but also a cultural connection.”

Katrina Storton, Film and Media student from University of California Santa Barbara

Nicholas Kafkas, Biology student from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse“My overall time here was amazing. Truly the best month of my life. The classes are great learning tools but laid back enough where your focus can be on site-seeing. The classes, trips, beaches, clubs, malls, historical sites make this trip one of a kind. I hope anyone thinking about this trip comes because it’s truly a trip of a lifetime!”
Nicholas Kafkas, Biology student from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse

“AHEPA Journey to Greece was one of the best experiences of my life. I learned so much about my culture and history. It gave me a deeper sense of pride to be Greek. Exploring Greece with other Greek Americans and Canadians was really special because we became so close with each other throughout the trip. It gave us a type of bond we will never be able to recreate and I am so grateful for that. AHEPA Journey to Greece gave me the adventure of a lifetime and I am so glad I got this opportunity!”

Anastasia Konstantinopoulos, General Business student from Kent State University

Stephanie McFarland, Math and Economics student from University of Pittsburgh

“The AHEPA Journey to Greece program provided me with the unique opportunity to study at an accredited university in the place my yiayia and pappow grew up. And then to make it better, I got to do so surrounded by other Greek Americans. It was a month filled with learning, unbelievable excursions and so much fun!”

Stephanie McFarland, Math and Economics student from University of Pittsburgh

Constantina Karalis, University of California Santa Barbara“From the monuments, to the ruins, beaches, and school, the 2017 AHEPA Journey to Greece program was not only fun-filled and memorable but truly life-changing. The program which consisted of classes, lectures, museum visits, day excursions, and long-distance trips was one of great importance. Not only did the program expose us to everyday instances of living in Greece, but it re-solidified us to our Grecian roots. Getting to interact with other Greek-American and Canadian students was an eye-opening experience as I got to interact with others that had similar background stories to mine. Having attended the 2017 AHEPA Journey to Greece program was the best choice I ever made! I am a proud Greek and I thank AHEPA for giving me this opportunity to remain in my homeland for these past four weeks. Go Greece!”
Constantina Karalis, Undeclared major at University of California Santa Barbara

Eleni Karkaletsis, Toxicology student from Chaffey College

“Coming abroad on this trip has been a very rewarding experience. I have a lot of young family here in my age group that tell me how jealous they are because they still haven’t gone through all the museums and historical ruins and for a lot of reasons I feel that the youth today have lost touch with their historical culture. I am happy to have been a part of this program because not only did I take advantage of our opportunities and lessons during the day, but I also got to enjoy being with my family and in that sense I feel more “Greek.” I’ve never felt so welcome and at home here. I have truly gotten in touch with my Greek roots and I now feel that pride along with the motivation to learn more and visit this magnificent country. I will be getting my Greek passport and will make plans to visit again next summer.”

Eleni Karkaletsis, Toxicology student from Chaffey College

Katerina Evangelopoulos, Political Science student, University of Calgary“To anyone who is considering the AHEPA Journey to Greece program, you will not regret it. It brings me great pride to know that I am a direct descendent of everything I see and breathe around me here. This program has allowed me the opportunity to make life-long friendships, all while connecting with my roots. There is nothing that has been more rewarding than learning first hand, by Webster Athens’ highly qualified and sincere professors, in the birthplace of democracy, the Olympics, philosophy, and medicine to name a few. To think that I have been studying over the summer in Greece- the birthplace of Western civilization, makes me feel extremely blessed. Thank you very much AHEPA for giving me this opportunity to learn about Greece!”
Katerina Evangelopoulos, Political Science student, University of Calgary
