AHEPA Journey to Greece is Underway
Thirteen students are enrolled in the 2017 Journey to Greece program hosted by Webster University, Athens Campus, June 24 to July 22. The students will earn college credit by studying ancient and modern Greece in addition to community leadership and civic engagement. The program also includes excursions to ancient and culturally-important sites. Learn more: program information

Tell Congress to Back the Return of the Parthenon Marbles
AHEPA commends the introduction of H.Con.Res.51, a bipartisan, concurrent resolution that expresses the sense of Congress that the Parthenon Marbles should be returned to Greece. U.S. Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), and Donald Payne, Jr. (D-NJ) introduced the resolution, May 2.

The United States will continue to support Greece as it enters the process of economic recovery, U.S. Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt said on Monday evening, as he marked Independence Day at an event held in his house. “As Greece now begins the process of economic recovery, the United States will continue to do all that we can to see that the Greek people thrive and succeed and to further strengthen our alliance,” he told guests. read more
Turkey: Greek coast guards fire on Turkish vessel in Aegean

Turkey on Monday condemned what it called an “excessive act” by Greece after Greek coast guards fired on a Turkish freighter ship near the Greek island of Rhodes…The Greek Coast Guard said it tried to stop the vessel following “an anonymous telephone complaint” that it was carrying narcotics. It said the ship was in Greek waters. read more
Troops Won’t Leave Cyprus Under Peace Deal, Turkish Minister Says

Turkey’s foreign minister says Turkish soldiers will remain on Cyprus under any agreement to reunify the ethnically divided island. Mevlut Cavusoglu says Turkey won’t accept a peace accord that would mandate the withdrawal of all of its troops from Cyprus — a key demand by Greece and internationally recognized Greek Cypriots. read more
