AHEPA Chapter 195 of Ann Arbor, Michigan, celebrated AHEPA Sunday in a big way this year, donating $5000 to a local charity, awarding a lifetime member, giving educational grants to deserving students, cooking for the community, and hosting its annual golf outing. It began with the Divine Liturgy at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Ann Arbor, where Chapter President and Supreme Governor Craig Theros read His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros’ encyclical declaring AHEPA Sunday. Then, 48-year member John Ballios received the “AHEPA Chapter 195 Lifetime Achievement Award” for his outstanding service, including his chairmanship of the Chapter’s Educational Committee.

The Chapter ended its presentation by awarding educational grants to the qualified high school seniors of the community. Meanwhile, back in the Church kitchen, Vice President Peter Petropoulos and Warden George Kokales led a team of Brothers to prepare the Parish’s favorite meal – a Lamb Luncheon, offered to the parishioners. The activities continued into Monday with the chapter’s annual Golf Outing. Here, the Chapter showcased who the AHEPA is to the public, what it stands for, and gave back to the community.

This year, $5000.00 of the proceeds were donated to the “Safe House Center,” in support of their efforts to help victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. That same weekend, the chapter held its 2nd annual Kayak river trip, taking several individuals down the Hudson River for three hours before a group picnic at the local Delhi Park.
