This short video special, the story of Col. Steve N. Pisanos also known as “The Flying Greek” is guest narrated by American broadcaster, Walter Cronkite.

Pisanos, was a Greek-American hero who immigrated to the U.S. in hopes of learning to fly planes. After finding himself a job at a movie theater in New York, he slowly saved money for flying lessons.

The tale goes onto to describe Pisanos eventually joining the U.S. Air Force and fighting in WWII.

After shooting down 10 German war planes, he finally gets shot down himself but survives the crash.

He evades capture and makes his way back to the United States where he one day retires as a colonel in the U.S. Air Force after 30 years of service.

The Order of AHEPA admires the courage displayed throughout Pisanos’ life and honors his dedication to defending the United States as a Greek-American citizen.
