AHEPA District 6 hosted their second annual Hellenic History Tournament on Saturday, March 15th at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Flushing, New York. AHEPA Supreme Governor Dean Moskos and DOP Grand Governor Lainie Damaskos-Christou served as co-chairs of the event that saw six teams from across the Empire District compete with one another to answer questions from the book Hellenika, Heritage & History by Peter Limber.
This year the tournament was honored to have in attendance Mr. Petros Dorizas, Consul from the Consulate General of Greece to speak to the audience about the importance of educating our next generations of Greek-American students in Hellenic history and culture in the Diaspora.
The First-place winners were sponsored by the Daughters of Penelope Ilion Chapter 135 in Astoria. “The Myrmidons of Manhattan” included Victor Stojanovski, Team Captain, James Vanterpool and Brandon Loor each receiving $1,000 in scholarship prize money. The Second-place winners were sponsored by the Porphyra Foundation. “The Theodosians” included Christos Daoulas, Captain, and Mila Obradovic each receiving $500 in scholarship prize money.
