AHEPA’s 2025 Journey to Greece Program commenced last week with an ice breaker event at Webster University where participants were able to meet one another before their welcome dinner in Monastiraki. The students enjoyed the fresh Greek salads, tzatziki, kababs, souvlakia, and gyro from the famous Bairaktaris Taverna before a short walking tour to Monastiraki square and to the Mitropoleos Cathedral.
On Monday, after a detailed orientation, where program hosts talked about the program and reviewed information on safety, security, and the transportation system, the students spent the afternoon doing walking tours to familiarize themselves with the area. They covered the locations of the post office, banks, bakeries, grocery stores, Syntagma, Monastiraki, and took the metro down to the port of Pireaus to to learn how to use the Metro System.

Classes began and students became familiar with their professors and courses before a group visitation to the Acropolis on Wednesday. On Thursday, the students visited the Benaki Museum with their Greek Mythology and Religion professor. Each student in the program was able to participate in this visitation, even if they were not enrolled in the class.
So far, the students have also traveled to the ancient theater of Epidavros and the first capital of Greece, Nafplio. Webster University Professor, Dr. Michalidis accompanied the students and taught them about the site’s significance before they had the opportunity to explore Nafplio before returning to Athens. They also had the opportunity to take advantage of the good weather with a beach day at Akti Vouliagmenis!
The students started this week with an excursion to Delphi and Ancient Olympia. We can’t wait to see what they do next!
