Last night, the AHEPA Family gathered for the opening ceremony of the convention, which featured free Philadelphia-style soft pretzels and the mummers – costumed street performers who played live music in a marching band style parade and dance party.

Attendees then enjoyed testimonies from various influential AHEPA Family figures including AHEPA Supreme President E. Chris Kaitson, Daughters of Penelope Grand President Antoinette Marousis-Zachariades, Vice Chair of the AHEPA BOT, George Horiates, PSP and former Mayor of Mount Laurel, NJ, Nikitas “Nick” Moustakas.

Following remarks, the “Sergianni Orchestra,” played live music until late as guests danced through the night to traditional Greek music.

Today, July 28th, both AHEPA and the DOP held their general sessions and committee meetings, convening to discuss legislative matters and the future of the AHEPA Family’s programs for the year.

Additionally, at the AHEPA General Session this morning, U.S. Congressman Ryan Mackenzie (R-7) came and delivered remarks to the attentive crowd of AHEPA Leaders from the locality and across the country.

Convention General Sessions serve an essential role in the proceedings of the Convention, providing an open floor to discuss all matters of importance for the various organizations within the AHEPA Family. Members are allowed to speak, introduce legislation, vote on specific points and discuss all matters relevant to the AHEPA Family.

This institution underscores AHEPA’s commitment to civic engagement and community building by encouraging participation in our institutions from all interested attendees.
