On Saturday, November 9, 2024, AHEPA Chicago Lakeshore Chapter 205 hosted another successful annual Midwest Hellenic History Tournament at Ascension of Our Lord Greek Orthodox Church in Lincolnshire, IL. Forty-two students competed on 14 teams to test their knowledge of Hellenic History, compete for $12,000 in prize monies, and for the title of Hellenic champions.

The day began with a welcome ceremony where all the students were recognized in their dedication to learn more about their Hellenic heritage. The tournament then started with all teams competing in three preliminary rounds before the teams were seeded with the top eight teams advancing to the knockout rounds. Questions all originated from the book Hellenika and spanned three periods: Ancient, Middle, and Modern. In the end, team “Trojan Horsepower” defeated team “Spartans” in an exciting final match. Teams “Socratic Circle” and “Trophybearers” were the other two teams who advanced to the semifinals.

The tournament would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors that allowed us to award $12,000 in prize monies to the top four teams; $6,000 for first place, $3,000 for second place, and $1,500 for both third and fourth place. The top two teams are also qualified for the International HHT tournament at the 2025 Supreme Convention at Walt Disney World in Orlando where they will compete with teams from five other regional tournament to be crowned International HHT champions.
